Choosing a colour theme for your web design is one of the most important, and potentially most difficult things to do.

it’s not just a case of choosing the right colours, which complement each other. You also need to think about whether colours should be in relation to each other on the screen. There are a number of things you can do, that will help when it comes to selecting colours for your new web design. Sometimes it’s just a case of trial and error to discover a combination that works well for the client you’re designing a website for.

If there is a primary colour that exists for an existing clients logo or current web design, then you’ll be able to use this colour as the primary colour and adjusted slightly, to give your secondary colour by making it darker or lighter.this is a very simple way to get started in terms of developing a colour theme or swatch.

there are a couple of websites that are particularly handy when it comes to choosing colours one is called colourschemer.com and the other is called templatemonster.com. These are websites that I came across whilst watching a video on mlwebco.com. This is also an excellent video with some very useful information with regards to choosing colour schemes and swatches for your web design.

With the coming of CSS3 into the mainstream of web design, will Photoshop die a death for web designers?

If the glory of rounded corners and multiple background images and image layers can be handled within CSS3, then will there be any use for trusty old PS or Illustrator even?

I’m not sure as yet whether Css3 will be able to manage gradient images, I’m going to look into that one…

I’ll still use good ol’ Photoshop I think. And Illustrator too – CSS3 will probably have to come a long way yet to negate the need for these two friends of most web designers. Image editing, colour correction and I’d guess resizing will probably still be better done by the Adobe suite (or other, more open flavours of software if that’s your cup of tea!)

Well, it’s up online right now as we speak. We’ve created and crafted the latest of our Bournemouth web designs using a sprinkling of xhtml, a dash of css, some flash and a handful of swfObject 2. Graphic design was carried out in Adobe illustrator cs3, with a couple of spoonfuls of Adobe photoshop cs3. The text flowed forth during copywriting and we are also cooking up some search engine optimisation (seo) services. Once baked in the web design oven and allowed to rest for a short period we’ll be looking at adding some CMS functionality and cultivating a little New Forest Tree Surgery blog too.

The Business

New Forest Tree Surgery is a new business trying to shoot it’s roots offering arboricultural and tree surgery services in the New Forest Area. Offering a friendly, customer centred service by conscientious fully trained and insured tree surgeons they really are living the motto – “from small acorns….”.

The Project Requirement

New Forest Tree Surgery was a completely new business, requiring help with the complete range of web design and business start up services in Bournemouth that Pure and Simple Web Design offer.

The Custom Solution

From choosing a business name, through to a concept for branding and logo, on to web design, web hosting and of course business cards and paper-based business stationery. Pure and Simple Web Design have been involved at every stage from concept to launch of the business.

The concept for the business website was to give a clean, fresh image – one that also conveyed the trustworthy nature of the business itself and inspired confidence in the the brand. The navigability of the website was key, to enable visitors to find information about services with ease. The big goal of the site is to encourage visitors to contact New Forest Tree Surgery with any questions or information requests that they may have, so contact details are prominent on every page, with a contact form for visitors to use should they not wish to use their own email or phone (for example they may be searching while having lunch at work).

The End Game

Hitting the target with the initial design requirements makes this website feel clean and fresh, and simple for visitors to use. The flash video is set at a gentle pace, adding some depth to the website without overly distracting visitors. Of course, we love our web design, as do New Forest Tree Surgery – and we are sure that visitors to the site will feel the same way too!
